Lisa and Mike Day
Mike Day began dancing in the late 1970's as an amateur disco dancer. After winning many dance contests in dance clubs across the South, and performing dance exhibitions at fashion shows, in TV commercials and a Miss USA pageant,
he started his formal training to become a professional ballroom dance instructor in 1982.

Mike received much of that training from many renowned coaches throughout his career including United States champions
Gary & Lori Pierce, David Hamilton & Nancy Harris, Cher Rutherford, Glennis Dee, John Swick, Sheryn Hawkins and Blackpool "British Professional Exhibition Champion" and "Battle Of The Giants" World Champion, June Mavor.


Mike’s professional dance resume includes:

* Certified Fred Astaire Dance Studios Gold level teacher, coach and choreographer
specializing in American style Smooth, Rhythm, Cabaret and Theatre Arts.


* Winner of multiple Top Teacher and Top Pro-Am dance awards at numerous local, regional and national Ballroom dance competitions including the Fred Astaire “Cross Country National Dance Championships”, the Triple Crown "Southern States Dance Championships" and “Florida State DanceSport Championships”.


* Dance Director for the Fred Astaire Dance Studio in Mobile, Alabama where he was responsible for training students and instructors for ballroom competitions and level progression, organizing showcases & team matches, professional and student exhibition choreography and music direction.

* Appeared on “Dance Fever” representing Mobile, Alabama in 1986, with a Waltz!

* Regional Dance Director and advanced instructor for Florida Dance Centers in Tampa and St. Petersburg, Florida.

* Dance Director and manager for In Step Dance Club in Jackson, Mississippi.

* As a Competition Owner and Organizer for sixteen years, he produced annual Ballroom dance competitions in Biloxi, MS. Gulfport, MS. Mobile, AL. Pensacola, FL. Branson, MO. and Myrtle Beach, SC.

Mike has also served as an adjudicator, music coordinator and co-organizer for other ballroom competitions.

* Served as an independent dance coach, guest instructor and examiner for studios and other dance organizations in Alabama, Arkansas, Florida, Louisiana and Mississippi.



* Taught classes at Jackson Academy, Jackson Prep, Madison Ridgeland Academy, St. Joseph High School, Forest High School, Terry High School and Mississippi College. For two semesters, Mike and his wife Lisa, offered a Ballroom Dance course at Hinds Community College and presented a comprehensive lecture on the history of social dance in America at the college's "Mississippi and the Arts Week".
Mike has provided a Ballroom and Swing continuing education course at Louisiana Tech in Ruston, LA and presently teaches an "Introduction to Ballroom Dance" program for the
Millsaps College Enrichment Program. The Days have also taught classes at numerous churches and retirement homes throughout central Mississippi.


In 2002, Mike and Lisa introduced a new concept for social dance instruction at Dance Connection in Pearl, MS. Their mission was to make Ballroom dancing affordable to everyone while offering a high quality level of instruction. In addition to teaching private lessons, the studio attracts the largest weekly class attendance in the state, and has introduced social dancing to more people than any other studio in Mississippi!


Mike’s interests have always been rooted in the Arts.
In his youth, he played the Viola in the Jackson Junior Symphony and the Baritone Saxophone in the Mississippi Honors Band and the Jackson Municipal Band.

In addition to his Ballroom dance career, he is also a graphic artist, editorial cartoonist, screen printer and performs with Ballet Mississippi in their productions of "The Nutcracker" and "Coppélia".
